Accused of felony murder, Sanders involved in a police chase earlier this year

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A week after an attempted robbery in Fox Point that ended with a fatal shooting, there's new video of a high-speed chase. It's not from the Fox Point store, but a burglary of a different optical store a month earlier.

Dashcam video from around 5 a.m. on April 12th -- and a Wauwatosa police officer is about to go on a high-speed chase. Just down the road was an optical store that had just been burglarized.

The officer made a u-turn to follow a suspicious vehicle. When the officer tries to catch up, the chase is on.

Two men eventually bailed from that car, -- taking off in separate directions. For a moment, the officer follows the car before calling off the chase for safety.

The license plate eventually leads a detector to 20-year-old Tedric Sanders who admitted he is the driver. He told police a friend asked him to keep driving since he was "running from his probation officer."

Sanders was due in court last Thursday to face charges, but never made it. Instead, police say he was trying to rob Innovative Optique in Fox Point with at least two others. Investigators say the store owner's brother shot and killed 22-year-old Joshua Drake and nearly killed Sanders.

Sanders is now charged with felony murder for Drake's death. If convicted, he could face up to 40 years in prison.

We don't know whether the two men seen fleeing in the dashcam video were ever arrested.

Some are now also asking how Sanders, a felon, was allowed to be on the streets after being accused of the high-speed chase. He posted the necessary $750 bond.
