RACINE COUNTY -- Racine County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a 46-year-old Rochester man on Wednesday, October 14th -- he was taken into custody for his 8th OWI offense.
Deputies were dispatched to the Highway 11 park-and-ride lot along I-94 shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday. A freeway service team had dropped the man with his disabled SUV there -- and believed the man was intoxicated. The service team located the man and his vehicle on I-94 just north of Highway KR -- where the man was found pushing his SUV down the shoulder.
When deputies arrived at the park-and-ride lot, they found the man to be highly agitated and smelled of intoxicants. He had also relieved himself in the parking lot by his vehicle. The driver refused the deputies' request to perform field sobriety tests and was taken into custody.
A search of the man turned up a spring-assisted knife and several packets of heroin that were prepackaged for sale. The total weight of the packaged heroin was 6.1 grams. There were also several needles and drug paraphernalia items found in the SUV.
