Active shooter training; Milwaukee group teaches how to survive

Whether you are a parent with a child in school, an educator, or maybe you are shopping at the mall, an active shooting can happen anywhere. A group in Milwaukee is hoping to teach more people how to survive those situations.

"Once your heart starts beating and you’re adrenaline is up, it’s crazy," said John Fletcher, training participant.

Fletcher runs his own self-defense education business.

"Any information about being safe, I’m all over it," Fletcher said.

Fletcher said he is adding active shooter training at Atone Lutheran School to his toolbox.

"This is a crazy world…At any moment, at any time, anything can kick off," Fletcher said.

The course, run by Alice Training Solutions, is simple – learn how to respond so you can teach others how to do the same.

"We want to be ready to make sure that we can increase survivability," said Chris Bartsch, Atonement Middle School Principal. "This training is really focused on providing us the different options in any sort of crisis situation so that we can think through what’s the best option."

It is a series of hypothetical mental and physical scenarios that paint a very real reality.

"It feels like I have these tools to use at my disposal and that makes me feel empowered but at the same time it makes me feel sad. It makes me feel just in a state of shock that this is now a part of my every day life," said Lauren Miholic, training participant.
