After new mother's tragic death, father turns to social media for help breastfeeding son

PORTLAND, Oregon -- A father has found overwhelming support after he went online for help breastfeeding his baby boy. This, after the boy's mother's tragic death.

This all started with a post on Facebook.

Alex Green took to social media with this message:

"Hello everyone. My sister just invited me to this page. I'm a new single father to Brody. He's eight months old. His mother died four months ago. His mother wanted to breastfeed him until he was a year old. Brody and I live in Bend, but have not had any luck finding milk there."

Green posted the message on behalf of his son, Brody.

The eight-month-old boy lost his mother after her tragic and sudden death in a car crash -- but Green didn't want to give up on her wishes to have her son breast fed.

His request for help has been met by hundreds of supporters who have donated or posted comments in response to Green's message.

"I can obviously can do almost anything for him except breastfeed him. I knew his mom wanted to breastfeed until he was a year old and I was willing to do whatever it takes to do that for him. I'm no hero in this situation. I think people donating their time and breast milk are the ones who should be acknowledged. I'm just an average ordinary guy trying to take care of his son," Green said.

Green says thanks to the generosity of so many mothers, he believes he will be able to feed his son breast milk until at least his first birthday.
