Classes resume at Purdue University following shooting
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WITI) -- Students returned to class at Purdue University on Thursday, January 23rd -- two days after 21-year-old Andrew Boldt of West Bend was shot and killed inside the school's electrical engineering building.
Students looking forward to getting back into the routine of classes also learned of permanent changes to the building where the shooting happened.
"That classroom will not be used. In fact, we are planning on renovating that area so we need to go back and figure out what our options are," said Ragu Balakrishnan, Head of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University.
School leaders say the basement room's future is a discussion for another day and want students to focus on healing.
"It is just clear we've lost, the world has lost, someone who would have done great things," said Former Indiana governor and Purdue president Mitch Daniels
Daniels walked the halls of the University, comforting the stunned campus and remembering a student who seemed to have such a bright future.
"Obviously as a time of tragedy, people find good things to say -- but descriptions of Andrew go way beyond that," said Daniels. "Plainly, he was a person of talent and aptitude. He was, clearly, a young man of great character."
Funeral services for Andrew Boldt will be held Tuesday, January 28th at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend.
