MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee alderman says the city should help pay for a new downtown arena for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Alderman Joe Davis says if the city can find money for a downtown streetcar, they can find money for a new arena.
Davis has previously announced he is running for mayor. He is proposing the city put at least $50 million in bonds towards an arena.
"The key thing is are we committed to it? That's the key thing. Let's stop saying we need to know more about the project and we don't know where's it going, because that is just a cop out. What's more important is are we willing to lose this franchise? I say no," Alderman Davis said.
Governor Scott Walker's plan has the state contributing $228 million to the arena. Some lawmakers have said they can't support that unless the city and Milwaukee County also step up with money.
