Allen-Bradley clock tower undergoing facade work

MILWAUKEE -- The Allen-Bradley clock tower is the world's largest four-face clock tower. Now, two of the four faces are "stuck" in the 6:30 position. There's a good reason for that.

The Allen-Bradley clock tower is undergoing some facade work. That's because Rockwell Automation will be celebrating the 50th anniversary of the tower's dedication on October 31, 2012. The company wants the clock tower to look its best at that celebration.

For the next two months, the north and south faces of the clock tower will be in the 6:30 position -- so crew can clean and refurbish at will. Then in August and September, the east and west faces of the clock will be locked in the 6:30 position for their cleaning.

The Allen-Bradley clock tower was completed in 1964. The original plans for the clock tower date back to 1959 -- and were created by architect Fitzhugh Scott.
