Another pursuit! This one in Racine, Wednesday afternoon; one person in custody
RACINE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned of another police pursuit -- this one occurring in Racine County on Wednesday afternoon, July 23rd.
Racine County Sheriff's officials say just before 4:30 p.m., a Racine County Sheriff's deputy observed a vehicle being operated northbound on I-94 -- north of County Highway C that he had previously stopped about a half-hour prior. During that stop, the deputy had cited the female operator for operating with a suspended license. The woman was advised not to drive -- or she would be arrested.
The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle -- but the operator sped up, and failed to yield to the deputy's attempt to pull her over using his emergency lights and sirens.
A pursuit ensued, reaching speeds over 100 miles-per-hour on the interstate through a posted 55mph work zone with construction workers in the area working.
A second Racine County Sheriff's squad and two Wisconsin State Patrol squads then joined the pursuit.
At one point, Sheriff's officials say the woman held her cell phone out of the driver's side window.
The suspect vehicle exited the interstate at 7 Mile Road, and then pulled into a gas station on 7 Mile Road and East Frontage Road, where the woman was taken into custody without further incident.
The female operator is being held in the Racine County Jail on several charges.
This comes after two other pursuits this week. The first occurred on Tuesday, July 22nd and involved a 33-year-old Milwaukee man. It began on Milwaukee's north side, and ended on the border of Mount Pleasant and Kenosha County.
The second occurred on Tuesday night, July 22nd. That pursuit involved two suspects. It began in Muskego, and ended in Greenfield.
