Are donations to Sandy victims hampering the Salvation Army?
MILWAUKEE -- Donations have been pouring into the American Red Cross to help people on the East Coast. That's great news for the people there. But is it bad news for charities in southeast Wisconsin?
The Salvation Army's Red Kettle campaign kicked off on Friday, November 2nd. There is concern that so many people are contributing or planning to contribute to Sandy recovery that there may not be room for another charity.
"It becomes a concern, of course, of how that's gonna affect us, but I am so confident in the people of Milwaukee, and their generosity," said Maj. Roger Ross of the Salvation Army.
Based on what FOX6 News found on Friday, Major Ross' confidence is confirmed. People in downtown Milwaukee were quite willing to dig deep into their pockets and help people right here at home.
Maj. Ross says 84% of the money donated to the Salvation Army goes to support 80 programs and services.
