"Still a fluid investigation:" Racine police investigate death of adult male as a homicide

RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police have released the name and photo of a suspect wanted in connection with a death that occurred at the Allegro Apartments on Three Mile Road on Racine's north side.

Police say at around 9:00 a.m. Monday, March 2nd, they were called about a death at the Allegro Apartments. They say a 27-year-old man was found dead inside the apartment complex -- suffering from several gunshot wounds. The Racine Police Department's "Major Crimes" unit was activated, and an investigation is underway.

The investigation has led to a suspect being developed. Investigators have been unable to locate that suspect.

That suspect is the victim's roommate, police say. He is 27-year-old Jacob Wayne Rogers -- a man police say should be considered armed and dangerous. He is believed to be traveling with his girlfriend -- 22-year-old Katelyn McGraw. Katelyn is believed to be an endangered person and a person of interest, police say.

Amy Martinez stopped by the crime scene earlier Monday. She says she pulled over when the saw crime tape wrapped around the apartment complex.

"I was just overwhelmed. When you see cops and lights -- somebody is in danger. And in this situation here, two lives have obviously changed. The world is getting so ugly. Life is just too short. Somebody just lost their life here. Somebody's life has changed drastically," Martinez said.

Martinez says not knowing the people involved doesn't make the death any less tragic.

A neighbor woke up to sirens Monday.

"I just came back from a nice little vacation from work. Come back to this," the neighbor said.

Police officers surrounded the apartment building across the street from his home.

"It was a commotion. It`s always a commotion unfortunately," the neighbor said.
