Milwaukee crash prompts house fire
A number of injured victims were taken to the hospital from the scene of a crash near 40th and North.
MILWAUKEE - Two people were injured and arrested after a crash near 40th and North Thursday evening, July 8 involving a vehicle that was fleeing police.
Police said the pursuit began around 5:50 p.m. when officers saw people engaged in drug dealing with a stolen vehicle. The driver then saw police and sped off, police said.
According to police, the fleeing vehicle crashed into a house just before 6 p.m. after striking a parked vehicle. Two occupants, a 20-year-old Milwaukee man and a 31-year-old Milwaukee woman, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to the hospital before being arrested.
There were people inside the house but none were hurt.
According to MFD, the house then caught fire, with responding firefighters finding heavy flames on the first and second floors, along with the attic.
Fire officials told FOX6 News a gas meter was also struck. We Energies responded to shut off the gas as the line going to the home was severed by the impact of the crash.
Criminal charges against the 20-year-old and 31-year-old will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office, police said.
