Assembly Speaker Robin Vos mum on whether UW cut will be reduced

MADISON (AP) — Assembly Speaker Robin Vos isn't saying whether Gov. Scott Walker's $300 million cut to the University of Wisconsin System can be reduced given new revenue forecasts.

Vos said Wednesday that Walker's $127 million cut to K-12 public schools will be closed, and his second priority is reducing borrowing to pay for roads. He didn't mention UW during comments at a transportation officials event.

But Republican Rep. Kathy Bernier told the Transportation Development Association that "I just don't know how it's going to be possible" to reduce the UW cut.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald has said he doesn't see the cut shrinking.

UW System spokesman Alex Hummel says the university remains committed to working with the Legislature to reduce the cut.
