Bank robbery, chase suspect could be charged soon

WALWORTH CO. -- 29-year-old Robert Lynn of the Town of Bloomfield could soon be charged in Walworth County for allegedly robbing a bank and leading police on a high-speed pursuit.

Lynn was arrested after police say he robbed the People's Bank North in the Town of Sugar Creek on Friday, August 24th.

A few minutes after the bank was robbed, a Wisconsin State Trooper spotted the alleged vehicle involved in the robbery and attempted to stop it. The suspect vehicle fled and reached speeds of more than 80 miles an hour.

Police say Lynn drove his car in and out of Walworth and Waukesha Counties. During the pursuit, a Walworth County Sheriff's deputy deployed stop sticks. They say Lynn swerved to avoid the stop sticks and drove directly at the deputy. That's when the deputy, identified as 27-year-old Dan Nichols, fired his service weapon at the suspect vehicle. He wounded the suspect and ended the pursuit around 2:30 p.m. Friday.

Nichols is a five-year veteran of the Walworth County Sheriff's Department. He's now on administrative duty -- which is standard procedure while an investigation is pending.

Charges against Lynn have been referred to the Walworth County District Attorney's Office. He is expected to be charged with robbery, false imprisonment, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, felon in possession of a firearm, intimidation of a victim, theft and fleeing and eluding.

Lynn is also being held for violating his probation.
