"Bennie loved everybody:" Family gathers to remember 1 of 2 men killed in double homicide



MILWAUKEE -- Police are looking into a possible motive and investigating the deaths of two men -- one shot and one stabbed at a home near 36th and Congress early Tuesday, August 9th. Family members told FOX6 News one of the victims is 25-year-old Bennie Bennett. They gathered Tuesday night to remember him.

Police say a man was shot during circumstances that remain under investigation.  He died at the scene, and has been identified by police as 44-year-old Billy Hill.

Another man was stabbed and transported to a hospital by an unknown person. He died at the hospital, and has been identified as 25-year-old Bennie Bennett.

To mark the tragic end of his young life, Bennett's family gathered Tuesday night on the street where his life started.

"Bennie kept everybody laughing. He had a very good sense of humor and Bennie loved everybody. Bennie helped everybody. Bennie loved to feed people and he loved to take care of people just like his mom," Bennett's mother, Dinese Bennett said.

Bennett was one of two men killed on 36th Street around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

FOX6 News has learned the other victim was 44-year-old Billy Hill -- a well-known and well-liked barber at Raquel's Hair Salon.

Bennett's family members didn't recognize Hill's name, but police believe these deaths are related, and occurred at the same location.

"I want to say to anybody that`s out there if you know who done this to my son Bennie Bennett, please come forward," Dinese Bennett said.

Bennett's mother said she will search for her son's killer until that person pays for this crime.

"Bennie was a loving guy. He loved his family. This is all his family and kids he grew up with and, you know, I`m going to do this until justice is served. I`m not going to stop," Bennett said.

No one is in custody in connection with this incident.

Bennett's family is going to release balloons in his honor Wednesday, August 10th at 6:00 p.m. near 50th and Luscher.
