MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Many schools in southeastern Wisconsin are closed on Monday, January 21st due to Martin Luther King Jr. day, and some kids may be eager to play outdoors. However, a blast of bitter cold air could make playtime dangerous, even for the most bundled up.
There are certain activities that can only be enjoyed in winter, like outdoor ice skating. Some took advantage on Sunday afternoon at Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee.
However, as the mercury falls this week, even winter's best offerings come with a dash of danger.
Monday will mark the coldest day so far of this year's Wisconsin winter. With a day off school on Monday, one doctor says the cold weather could mean more kids with frostbite.
Doctors say parents should be on the lookout for signs of frostbite, which include red skin and numbness, and should limit their kids' time outdoors when the temperatures are dangerously cold.
