Blizzard of 2015 not done yet, but the good news? Travel is beginning to get back to normal

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The blizzard of 2015 isn't done yet. While sparing much of New York and New Jersey, the storm walloped parts of New England with several feet of snow and coastal flooding Tuesday. And there's more to come. But the good news? Though the storm has had a ripple effect on travel across the country -- including here in Milwaukee, the travel pain is beginning to ease up.

There has been no disruption when it comes to traveling by train, and things are slowly getting back to normal when it comes to traveling by bus and plane.

It was touted as an historic storm -- shutting down parts of the East Coast, including New York City. Flights to the area were cancelled -- including some out of General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee. Greyhound service from Chicago to the Northeast stopped at 6:00 p.m. Monday, January 26th.

Joseph Rapuanl is a transporter who contracted with an Indiana company to drive multiple U.S. Postal Service trucks to New York City, but not now -- and it's costing him money.

"We`re shut down from transporting anything east until Friday. It`s just too dangerous. They have to remove all of the snow and there`s a possibility that there might be even another storm we`re hearing coming along the way," Rapuanl said.

An Amtrak spokesman says fortunately, its service never stopped. We're told it's not the snow that hampers trains, but rather, bitterly cold temperatures.

On Tuesday, January 27th, things were looking up for those looking to travel by bus or plane. Greyhound services to New York went back online at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, and travel from the East Coast was scheduled to resume at 7:40 p.m.

While folks were able to head out to places like Washington D.C. and Philadelphia Tuesday, cancellations two and from New York, Newark and Boston remained cancelled. Just about all of those affected that would have been leaving from Mitchell International seemed to know they wouldn't be getting out, because very few were at the airport Tuesday.

The flight cancellations have left planes out of place, so there may be delays and cancellations over the next few days as everything gets figured out. It's best to check with your airline if you have travel plans this week.
