Bluff erosion: Slabs of concrete transported to homes in need of protection from Lake Michigan

RACINE COUNTY -- Progress is being made as it relates to combating the severe bluff erosion along Lake Michigan in Racine County.

At the beginning of August, slabs of concrete were delivered to Mount Pleasant from an airport in Waukegan.

On Monday, August 29th, that heap of concrete was finally put to use.

Vassh Excavating and Grading transported the concrete to homes in need of protection from Lake Michigan.

"We dump it near the edge because you don't want to back a truck too close to the edge. It'll go down. Then we get a big excavator. We stretch the boom out and we push it over the edge. Where it lands, it lands because you can't get down there," Randy Vassh with Vassh Excavating and Grading said.

Vaash Excavating is providing services for a fraction of their regular rate.

Once all the concrete is distributed, more will be brought in.
