Body found in Cudahy apartment was "mummified," one person in custody

CUDAHY (WITI) -- We are learning new and disturbing details about a death investigation in Cudahy. At the same time, police say they have a "person of interest" in custody in connection with the case.

Last Wednesday, the body of a woman was discovered in an upstairs apartment near Kirkwood and Carpenter in Cudahy. Police say the body found was positioned on its back, likely deceased for several weeks, and in a mummified stage. Witnesses told police even though they hadn't seen the tenant lately, a man was coming and going from the apartment. Police also found numerous cans of air freshener throughout the apartment.

The name and cause of death have not been released. But on Tuesday, Cudahy police say they have a person of interest in custody -- and the public is not in any danger.
