Body of Jane Doe exhumed, due for new analysis

RACINE CO. (WITI) -- The body of an unidentified homicide victim discovered on the edge of a cornfield along 92nd St. in Racine County back in July 1999 was exhumed on Wednesday, October 16th. The body of the Jane Doe was transported to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office for analysis.

On Thursday, October 17th, Racine County Sheriff Christopher Schmaling talks about the continuing homicide investigation related to this victim.

"This case is not cold. This case is on the forefront. It hasn’t grown any dust on it," said Schmaling.

Jane Doe was 5'8" tall, 120 pounds with short brown hair. Her ears were double pierced and her left ear had a deformation consistent with 'cauliflower ear'. Her teeth were in poor condition with her front teeth slightly protruding.   She was found clothed in black sweatpants and a man's gray country western-style shirt.  The shirt had pearlized snap buttons and a red floral pattern.  This female suffered severe abuse prior to her death.

The Racine County Sheriff’s Office has been consulting with the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NAMUS) regarding an exhumation of her body.  There has been much advancement in scientific testing since 1999.

"With the additional work-up, through forensic anthropology, we hope to narrow down some more specific characteristics about Jane Doe," said Schmaling.

New technology has the potential to provide investigators with information about her life in the weeks, months and even years prior to her death. Officials believe this information could help identify her and lead investigators to the people responsible for her death.
