Bomb threats called into three schools in the Milwaukee area: "It's frustrating"

GERMANTOWN -- A wave of bomb threats forced evacuations at schools across the state of Wisconsin and the country this week, and on Wednesday, May 25th, this happened at at least three schools in the Milwaukee area.

Students were evacuated from Franklin High School in Franklin,County Line Elementary School in Germantown and Bradford High School in Kenosha after threats were phoned into those schools.

"They`ve been taking place everywhere and it`s unfortunate that, you know, this kind of thing takes place -- but our students are our primary concern and our safety of them, so whenever we get a serious threat like that, we do take it serious," Dr. Steve Patz, superintendent of Franklin Public Schools said.

A "robocall," or computer-generated threat was made to Franklin High School around 9:40 a.m. Wednesday.

That's around the same time that a threat was phoned into County Line Elementary in Germantown.

Police couldn't confirm that threat was a robocall, but said it's likely.

"We`re working with the Department of Criminal Investigation and some of the other agencies in trading information. The way these calls are made technology-wise, they`re very difficult to trace," Germantown Police Chief Peter Hoell said.

Hoell said it appears the purpose of these "robocalls" is to cause disorder and disruption.

"I don`t think it`s a student trying to get out of school," Chief Hoell said.

While these threats must be taken seriously, they drain resources.

"It`s disturbing. It`s frustrating. It`s, you know, all those kinds of emotions. Somebody`s doing this, for the most part, at least to this point, as somewhat of a prank," Dr. Patz said.

Students at Franklin High School and Kenosha Bradford High School were able to return to class after officials checked the buildings.

County Line Elementary School students were sent home for the day.

Investigators are working to determine the source of these threats.
