Both major runways at Mitchell nonoperational for period of time Wed.
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Cessna private jet on Wednesday afternoon, February 19th experienced a mechanical issue with its landing gear as it was in the process of taxiing off the runway. This, according to a spokesman with General Mitchell International Airport.
It happened just before 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on the airport's east/west runway.
An airport spokesman says passengers were taken off the plane, but the plane continued to block the runway for a period of time.
The airport's fire department was dispatched to the scene as a precaution.
The airport spokesman says around the same time, the airport's north/south runway was shut down for a brief period of time due to crews making repairs to the pavement.
That led to a small disruption of service (as both major runways were not operational) - and some flights were delayed. Other small runways were operational, but some flights were unable to use these due to the size of the planes.
