Bowling alley owner applauded in wake of Sikh Temple shooting

OAK CREEK -- In the aftermath of the Sikh Temple shooting, there was one business where victims' families, first responders and law enforcement sought refuge.

The owner of Classic Lanes in Oak Creek hadn't planned for the bowling alley to be a place of relief for those involved in the incident, but it did. The business began assisting in any way -- with an offer of space, food, beverage and time.

Now, other businesses want to express their gratitude to the owner, Al Passehl. That's because be worked up to 38 hours straight -- and some of his employees pitched in as well.

When FOX6 News talked to Passehl about his generosity a few days after the shooting, he was humbly quick to deflate it.

"I`m glad we were able to do what we could do. What we did was very little. God forbid this ever happen again to anybody in our community or any other one," said Passehl.

Passehl's bowling alley is full of strikes and spares once again. But his actions have spawn action.

Martin Law Office set up a benefit account called "Benefit Fund for Classic Lanes" through BMO Harris Bank for 30 days. The office is challenging other corporations in Oak Creek to donate $250 if they can. Kevin Martin says it's a small way to show appreciation for the owner of Classic Lanes -- and what the owner did for his neighbors.

"I can`t think of a better way to underscore what it means to be a corporate citizen than what Classic Lanes did and it really underscores the spirit of the city of Oak Creek," said Martin.
