Carjacking at gunpoint in Brown Deer

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- Brown Deer police released on Monday, December 29th new information related to a carjacking that happened in the parking lot of a shopping center just north of Brown Deer and Green Bay on Sunday.

Officials say a woman was getting out of her maroon 2006 Toyota Corolla just before 3 p.m. near the Bath and Body Works store.

"They just held me up with a gun," said the victim in the 911 call to police.

One suspect entered the passenger side door. He reportedly pointed a gun at the woman -- and ordered her to leave the vehicle. A second suspect then entered the car and drove the vehicle off the lot. The victim was not hurt in this incident.

Police say the suspects were described as two males, black, with several tattoos covering their faces.

"One had tattoos all over his face, one was wearing a black sweatsuit, one was wearing an all red sweat suit," said the victim in the 911 call.

"She was in fear for her life, and she turned over the car keys, which is what she should do," said Brown Deer Police Chief Michael Kass.

Police say whether you're sitting inside your car, or walking through the parking lot, you should always be aware of your surroundings.

"It’s important that people that are out and about that they do pay attention to their surroundings, and that they at least have a plan, in case someone would approach them," said Chief Kass.

Pamela Holmes recently shopped at the Bath and Body works, in the same strip mall as the carjacking.

She tries to put herself in the victim's shoes.

"You know what I would pray -and whatever happens, happens. I would pray that my kids you know, that God would take care of them," said Holmes.

Holmes says she will be extra vigilant when she shops, and be on the look-out for the car.

'"What is going on with the world today? You know...in broad daylight that just doesn`t make sense. Some of this violence needs to stop," she said.

Again, the vehicle taken was a maroon 2006 Toyota Corolla with license plate 993-UAP. The victim's purse and shopping merchandise were in the car when it was stolen.

Brown Deer police are urging anyone with information about this crime to call 414-371-2900 as soon as possible.
