BUSTED: Armed robbers steal food, not cash, from delivery driver in Racine
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police arrested three people in connection with the armed robbery of a delivery driver.
Officers responded to Main Moon, located on Erie Street, around 8:30 p.m. Monday, January 26th for reports of a robbery to their delivery driver.
"He had received a call to deliver food to the 1500 block of Superior. Once he got out of the vehicle, he was struck in the back of the head by a baseball bat," said Racine Police Lt. Al Days.
The victim was taken to Wheaton Franciscan Medical Center where he received treatment for his injuries.
The suspects then fled from the scene on foot -- not with cash -- but food.
When officers eventually got to the scene of the crime, the weather helped them catch a clue.
"There were three distinct sets of footprints in the snow, 'cause it had snowed yesterday. So, officers took those three distinct sets of footprints and followed them away from the scene to an address in the 1600 block of Douglas," said Days.
Once there, Days says the officers established a perimeter -- and later convinced three suspects to surrender.
"Preliminary search of the home did find evidence that the food items were still in the address," said Days.
The three suspects, identified as 19-year-old Darius Perry, 20-year-old Shaquille Stevenson and a 17-year-old boy, were arrested for armed robbery, 1st degree recklessly endangering safety, and a probation hold.
