BUSTED: Fingerprints, Facebook, Fashion...and the suspect's mom help police nab man after bank robbery

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police say a bank robbery suspect was arrested and charged after fingerprints, Facebook and fashion helped MPD solve the crime.

Police say the suspect is 18-year-old Malik Hartfield of Milwaukee.

He was arrested on the Fourth of July for his involvement in the June 22nd robbery of the TCF Bank inside the Pick 'N Save store in the 2300 block of N. 35th Street.

Police say Hartfield entered the bank and gave the teller a note demanding money.

Police say the teller complied, and Hartfield fled the scene.

Police were able to recover the demand note -- and Hartfield's fingerprints were identified. Police also located Hartfield's fingerprints on the door of the building.

Police say after reviewing surveillance video, Hartfield was seen wearing a unique sweatshirt.

Officers then looked at Hartfield's Facebook page -- and saw him wearing the same sweatshirt.

A search warrant was then executed at Hartfield's home, and officers recovered two more demand notes.

Police say Hartfield's mother identified her son after taking a look at a still photo taken from the surveillance video.

Hartfield has been charged with one count of robbery of a financial institution -- and if convicted, could serve a 40-year prison sentence.

Hartfield made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, July 9th.
