BUSTED! Police arrest five, each under the age of 16, following armed robberies
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police tell FOX6 News five people, all under the age of 16 have been taken into custody in connection with a series of armed robberies committed on Wednesday morning, December 31st.
A Marquette University student was the victim of a robbery occurring around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday.
Officials say a gold Toyota Camry with four males inside approached the Marquette student. One of the suspects showed a weapon through the car's window and demanded property.
No property was obtained, and the suspects fled the scene in the vehicle -- heading eastbound on Wisconsin Avenue.
The Marquette University student was not injured.
Police said early Wednesday they believed the suspects responsible for the robbery of the Marquette student could be responsible for other armed robberies occurring Wednesday morning:
Police say in each of these incidents, a vehicle containing multiple suspects, one who was in possession of a firearm, pulled near the victim and demanded valuables. Nobody was hurt in any of these incidents.
On Wednesday afternoon, just before 1:15 p.m., police observed a vehicle matching the description of the one used in the robberies in the 5100 block of W. Hampton Avenue.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled from the officers.
After a short pursuit, the driver stopped the vehicle in the 8700 block of W. Herbert Avenue. Five occupents of the vehicle fled on foot into a residential neighborhood.
All five suspects, each under the age of 16, were taken into custody.
Police believe these five suspects are responsible for the armed robbery involving the Marquette student, the armed robbery at 67th and Center, and the armed robbery at Richards and Capitol Drive. A police sergeant also told FOX6 News it is believed these suspects are responsible for a robbery on North Avenue.
These armed robberies have police encouraging folks to be aware of their surroundings as they are going to or coming from their vehicles, and as they are walking on the street.
