BUSTED: Racine police nab teens suspected of burglaries
RACINE (WITI) -- Racine police have in custody two teenagers who they believe are responsible for a series of burglaries in their city.
On Friday, May 30th at about 5:15 a.m., officers responded to a stretch of Arlington Avenue because an alert citizen noticed a couple of suspicious males in a backyard. The citizen noted that one of the males was wearing a surgical mask on his face and carrying a laptop computer. Officers located and detained the two teens.
As the investigation continued, officers discovered other burglaries had occurred nearby. Investigators then sought and secured a search warrant at the home of one of the suspects. Multiple items of stolen property were recovered from the home.
The suspects, Anthony Berby and Shane Cataldo, brought to the police station pending further investigation. While in the process of being moved from the detective bureau to the transport wagon, Berby pulled free from the officer and took off. After lengthy foot chase, Berby was found and taken back into custody.
Officials say burglary reduction remains a priority for the police department. They say these suspects were arrested as a result of collaborative efforts between the citizens of our community and the Racine Police Department.
