MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police, with the help of an alert witness, arrested a suspect wanted for an attempted strong-armed robbery just minutes after it happened.
Officers responded to the 800 block of W. Wisconsin Avenue shortly after 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 26th for a report of an attempted robbery.
The victim, a 24-year-old Milwaukee woman, told officers that a suspect approached her, tried to grab her purse and struggled with her before he fled on foot. A witness saw the crime happen and began running after the suspect.
Bicycle officers found the suspect and the witness who chased him about five minutes later in the 700 block of N. 16th Street.
The suspect, a 17-year-old Milwaukee male, was taken into custody and later, during an interview with police, confessed to the crime.
Charges will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days.
