"It was 12th Street and Grand Avenue around five something in the evening. A silver truck hit a red truck, and then the silver truck took off," said Racine Police Sgt. Kristi Wilcox.

Racine police said someone witnessed the hit-and-run and flagged down an officer. No one was hurt in that crash.

Racine pursuit, chain-reaction crash; 2 men charged

Racine County prosecutors charged two men after an attempted traffic stop led to a pursuit and chain-reaction crash on Monday.

"The officer tried to catch up to it, but was unable to relocate," Wilcox said.

The Wisconsin DOJ said officers later spotted the silver truck and tried to pull it over, but the driver did not stop. The truck hit a tree while fleeing police and caught fire. The driver died at the scene.

The officers involved in the chase are now on administrative leave, which is standard policy. The Wisconsin DOJ said those officers are fully cooperating with the investigation and were wearing bodycams.
