Campaign 2016: Alderman Joe Davis wants to be Milwaukee's next mayor

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- There's another official candidate running for mayor of Milwaukee. Milwaukee Alderman Joe Davis announced his candidacy at a body shop in his district on Wednesday afternoon, October 22nd.

"It pains me to see the conditions that have been created through the lack of attention in certain areas due to misguided priorities," said Davis.

Davis' candidacy makes the 2016 election a three-person race. In July, Alderman Bob Donovan announced his bid for mayor.

"I think it speaks volumes to the level of frustration that exists throughout Milwaukee in many quarters regarding our current administration," said Donovan.

Mayor Tom Barrett's campaign did not immediately respond to our request for comment.

Davis says his focus on attracting outside investors sets him apart from his fellow challenger.

"The difference between my message and Alderman Donovan's message is that I had a very good economic robust ideas in my message. It's not all about public safety and it's really not about ratting on the current mayor," said Davis.

Davis' speech also focused on education. His boldest proposal in that regard is for the city to build a boarding school for students living in high-crime neighborhoods. It's an idea Donovan has supported for years.

"Boarding schools...I think we need more than one, I think we need several," said Donovan.

"We can see it hasn't been a priority because it hasn't been done so as mayor of the city, that would be one of my priorities," said Davis.

Again, the mayor's race is not on the ballot until April 2016.
