Chief Flynn pens editorial for Time Magazine's website, says officers are "depressed by current climate"
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- An editorial written by Milwaukee Police Chief Ed Flynn was being featured on Time Magazine's website Thursday, April 9th.
Chief Flynn says the officer-involved shooting in South Carolina is the "clearest example of documented wrongdoing" he has ever seen. He says officers are "depressed" because they're being judged by "the worst examples" of police officers.
In the editorial, Flynn points out that he fired former Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney for his bad judgement when he shot and killed Dontre Hamilton in Red Arrow Park last April.
Flynn says training and supervision can help to prevent cases like what happened in South Carolina.
He also calls out protesters in the editorial -- both across the country and in Milwaukee, saying "with all due respect to the motives of those who take to the streets, it's far easier to mobilize against perceived misconduct than to deal with systemic disparate violence in disadvantaged neighborhoods."
