St. Ben's Christmas Eve meals

People gathered at Milwaukee's St. Benedict the Moor Parish – often referred to as "St. Ben's" – for a special Christmas Eve meal.

People gathered at Milwaukee's St. Benedict the Moor Parish – often referred to as "St. Ben's" – for a special Christmas Eve meal.

"It's something different. We never done anything like this as a family," said Lindsey Konieczka.

Serving food and bringing smiles is how the Konieczka family spread holiday cheer to those who need it most.

"We are all very fortunate and very blessed, and what better way to see that and give back and give thanks for those things than to be here right now," said Kyle Konieczka.

Christmas Eve meals served at St. Benedict the Moor Parish

"These people don’t get this type of chances all the time, so we want to make it good for them," said Kaden Konieczka, their son. "Happy to be here doing this."

The Konieczka family was among the more than 50 volunteers who helped serve roast beef, mashed potatoes and green beans for a special Christmas Eve meal. More than 200 meals were served.

"A lot of them are thankful, a lot of them are excited because they don’t have any place to go. This is one opportunity for us to be able to share with our guests," said Kennth Howard, Capuchin Community Services assistant director.

"It was actually great because it’s a blessing to share with everyone," said Don Harris.

The center provides warm, homemade meals for those in need all year. It also provides a warm space during winter.
