Clarke Street School teams up with Northwestern Mutual, Feeding America to host food pantry
MILWAUKEE -- Clarke Street School is teaming up with "Northwestern Mutual" and "Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin" to host a food pantry for the school's students.
Every month, volunteers pass out about 17,000 pounds of food, which helps about 125 families.
Feeding America officials estimate one in four Milwaukee kids isn't getting enough to eat each day -- and that can affect their performance in school.

"A young person that has access to food resources and can eat a healthy breakfast and lunch, they're able to learn a little better. They're able to focus. They're able to stay accountable throughout the day," Ossie Kendrix with Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin said.
The food pantry also serves as a way for teachers to interact with parents, and talk about how their kids are doing in school.
The program is in its third year.
