Clues left behind: Caledonia police seek hit-and-run driver after 75-year-old victim seriously injured
RACINE COUNTY -- A 75-year-old man was seriously hurt in a hit-and-run crash in Caledonia Monday evening, February 6th -- and police are now seeking the striking driver.
3 Mile Road and State Highway 31
It happened at the intersection of 3 Mile Road and State Highway 31 -- as the man was walking home around 6:15 p.m.
"He had a pretty severely broken leg," Lt. Gary Larsen with the Caledonia Police Department said. "As a result of the accident and the trauma, he really couldn`t remember too much about the accident."
Police said the man was crossing State Highway 31 and was struck by a vehicle traveling north. The striking vehicle did not stop and fled the area -- but police said some clues were left behind.
Car parts were recovered from the scene, including part of a side mirror. Police believe they've narrowed down the type of vehicle that struck the man.
"We were able to determine those pieces either came either from a Chevy Impala or a Monte Carlo," Lt. Larsen said.
Police would like any information on a 2000 to 2005 Chevy Impala that is missing a driver's side-view mirror.
Witnesses told police a dark-colored vehicle was speeding before the man was hit.
"We would like to find out who struck this gentleman and then just left him to lay there," Lt. Larsen said.
A friend of the victim told FOX6 News they spoke with him on Tuesday, and he was staying positive despite what happened.
