LOS ANGELES -- Comedian Garry Shandling died at a Los Angeles area hospital on Thursday, March 24th according to TMZ.
Shandling was 66 years old.
TMZ said sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Shandling died from a massive heart attack -- with no prior warning whatsoever.
TMZ says Shandling made the call to 911 himself, telling the dispatcher he was experiencing a severe medical emergency. Sources told TMZ Shandling lapsed into unconsciousness in the middle of the call.
Paramedics were dispatched and TMZ was told no one answered, so they had to kick in the door at "The Larry Sanders Show" star's home.
A source connected to Shandling says he was healthy and speaking to people on Thursday morning.
Last weekend, Shandling was hanging with friends Kathy Griffin and Bob Odenkirk, who also co-starred with Garry on 'Larry Sanders.'
