Community commitment: "Gee's Clippers" receives sleek upgrade thanks to Milwaukee Bucks

BRONZEVILLE -- For the last several months, the bulk of the Milwaukee Bucks talk has involved the basketball team's proposed new arena. But Friday, October 9th the Bucks bounced into Bronzeville, where the team's community commitment was the topic of conversation.

Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin at Gee's Clippers

Milwaukee Bucks President, Peter Feigin, came in for a cut at Gee's Clippers near King Drive and North Avenue -- where the owner of one Milwaukee barbershop is among the biggest Bucks backers.

"Been the barber of Bucks players probably for about 17 years now," said Gaulien "Gee" Smith, Owner of Gee's Clippers.

Now, "Gee" Smith's business becomes one of the team's community partners, and the Bucks are making a couple of key contributions, which include covering the cost of a new Bucks-themed stepping surface.

"In the last year we've re-branded the team and we've redone our floors at the Cousin's Center. We've redone our floors at the Bradley Center -- and now, he's going to redo our floors authentically at Gee's," said Peter Feigin.

The authenticity is appreciated as the long-time Bucks fan extends a warm welcome to a new neighbor carving a niche.

"If they've though enough of being a community partner for a barbershop, you know, in the community, this says a lot about what's to come in the city of Milwaukee," said Gee.

Outside the shop, Gee and Peter have preliminary plans to put a Bucks mural up on the exterior wall. Meanwhile, as part of the partnership between the Bucks and the barbershop, the Bucks organization is planning to give Gee 10-20 tickets for each home game so that he can distribute them to people who otherwise might not make it.
