Computer glitch stresses out students applying for college

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A computer glitch is stressing out students trying to apply for college. The glitch is with "Common Application," a website high school students use to apply to several colleges at once.

More than 500 colleges and universities use Common Application to help choose who to accept as freshmen in fall. With the Common Application website using a new program, there's been new problems.

Guidance counselors are helping students with the nationwide problem -- assuring them that universities are aware. Some colleges are already extending deadlines.

Marquette University uses Common Application -- and is now helping students on an individual basis -- steering them to its application on another website. The university says it hopes it won't have to extend its December 1st deadline.

The University of Wisconsin System is not on Common Application.
