Congressional campaign fundraising: Paul Ryan sets new personal record
RACINE (AP) — U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan has set a new personal record for fundraising.
The Journal Times of Racine reports Ryan raised $1.6 million in the quarter that ended June 30. It is the most the Republican congressman has ever raised in a quarter.
Ryan was first elected to Congress in 1998. He ran for vice president in 2012 and is frequently mentioned as a possible presidential contender in 2016.
This year has seen Ryan's two best fundraising quarters. He raised nearly $1.4 million in the quarter that ended March 31. Campaign finance reports show he has $3.8 million on hand.
Ryan will face the winner of the Democratic primary between Rob Zerban and Amar Kaleka in the Nov. 4 general election. All the candidates' fundraising reports are due Tuesday.
