Cookies prepared for the We Energies Cookie Book giveaway

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- From mixing to shaping to baking, Melody Cookies is staying plenty busy preparing nearly 100,000 cookies for the We Energies Cookie Book Giveaway.

"We take the recipe out of the We Energies Cookie Book that's in cups, ounces, and teaspoons and we convert it all the way up to pounds. This particular batch is 191 pounds," said Melody Cookies Operations Manager Mark Baggenstoss.

The sweet treats will be distributed for free along with the We Energies annual Cookie Book at events across the state.

But one of the most popular spots is Miller Park.

"It looks like people are lining up to go tailgating for a Brewers game or something but they are there because they are eager to get their hands on a Cookie Book," said We Energies Spokesperson Cathy Schulze.

The Cookie Book started back in 1928 and has been a tradition ever since.

Just last year, We Energies began asking customers to submit their own recipes for the book.

"Many have included their own stories their own history behind the recipe with the recipe. It's really neat to hear how these recipes have been passed down from generation to generation," said Schulze.

The cookie handed out at this years event is the Cranberry Holiday Cookie, featured in the 2006 Cookie Book.

"It is one of our customers favorites tried and true, we've handed it out in years past and it's always been very popular," said Schulze.

Satisfying the sweet tooth of customers getting ready for the holiday season.

The We Energies Cookie Book Giveaway will take place this Saturday at Miller Park from 9am - 1pm.
