Cudahy shooting, man dead at scene

Cudahy police said a man was shot and killed after an altercation Saturday, Feb. 24. It happened on Packard Avenue near Birchwood Avenue, just north of Ramsey Avenue.

Cudahy police said a 41-year-old South Milwaukee man was shot and killed after an altercation Saturday night, Feb. 24.

It happened on Packard Avenue near Birchwood Avenue, just north of Ramsey Avenue, around 5:50 p.m. When officers arrived, they learned the man had been shot.

Police said lifesaving efforts were initiated by a passerby, the responding officers and the Cudahy Fire Department. The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

On Monday, Feb. 26, the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office, the victim was identified as 41-year-old Eric Robert Maddox.

The person of interest fled in a vehicle and has not been located. Authorities said preliminary information indicates the vehicle may have been a black SUV.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the man was driving northbound on Packard and was engaged in a conflict with another driver, who was also going northbound. The conflict escalated when witnesses said the cars stopped and the victim got out of his car and confronted the suspect. 

It is not clear if the suspect and victim knew one another.
