Demond Means, commissioner of Opportunity Schools Partnership Program announces upcoming listening session

MILWAUKEE -- It has been two months since Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele appointed a commissioner to the state mandated Opportunity Schools Partnership Program or OSPP. Now, Commissioner Demond Means says it's time for public listening sessions.

Means was the guest Wednesday, January 13th at the Milwaukee Press Club's Newsmaker Luncheon.

OSPP would allow Means to restructure a certain number of Milwaukee Public Schools' under-performing schools.

Means says this would not be a takeover.

"Whoever wants to come to the table, let's do it -- but we have to do it in the name of trust and no agendas. It's got to be about the kids and ultimately there's got to be high expectations," Means said.

Means says the first listening session is tentatively scheduled for January 28th -- but more details are forthcoming.

Means says the OSPP also needs an advisory board.

Means is also the superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District.
