Denied for a third time: Convicted sex offenders will not be moving into home in Lomira

LOMIRA -- Officials with the Dodge County Sheriff's Office say two convicted sex offenders, who were set to move into a home in Lomira after their placement was approved by a judge will not be able to live at that home because the sale of the home fell through.

Sheriff Dale Schmidt said in a statement issued to FOX6 News that he received an email on Wednesday, June 8th from the Department of Health Services indicating the sale of the home, located at W462 Highway 67 in the Town of Lomira fell through.

A judge approved the placement of Robert Larson and Jonathan Miller at this home on May 17th. They will now remain at Sand Ridge Secure Detention Facility in Mauston pending the search for a new home.

This is the third time a potential residence for these two men has been denied. They were previously set to move into homes in Brownsville and Reeseville in Dodge County.

The home in Reeseville was no longer on the market when Department of Health Services officials tried to purchase it.

Larson and Miller moved into the home in Brownsville -- but it was later learned 11-year-old twins lived next door -- and the men were sent back to Sand Ridge.

Miller was convicted of sexually assaulting five-year-old and seven-year-old girls in 2002.

Larson was convicted of first degree sexual assault in 1994, involving a 10-year-old girl and a woman, and assault with a dangerous weapon.

Neighbors pushed back against the plan to release Miller and Larson in Lomira, including a man who said his grandchildren spend a lot of time at his home nearby.

"The plans are bologna. I don't -- I got eight great-grandchildren. They come out here all the time," Bob Gregory said.

Gregory said he lives for visits from his great-grandchildren, who spend most of the summer at his home.

"My wife didn't live to see them, but I did and you're not taking that away from us now," Gregory said.

Gregory told FOX6 News on Wednesday, June 8th he was relieved to learn Larson and Miller won't be living down the street.

"That is great. That is really great. I'm really glad. I prayed to God that they weren't gonna get in there. Everybody was mad. Everybody was mad. I said, the only way we're gonna change it is if we stand together -- the whole town of Lomira," Gregory said.
