Diabetics must pay special attention to nutrition

The rate of growth in the number of people being diagnosed with pre-diabetes, both locally and nationally, is alarming. The challenge is that people don’t feel sick with pre-diabetes, so they either don’t know they have it or deny that they are in trouble until it’s too late.

Paying attention to nutrition, such as learning to count carbs, is an effective method for some people with pre-diabetes to return blood glucose levels to a normal range. Early treatment, exercise and eating right can help prevent Type 2 Diabetes for some pre-diabetics.

Registered Dietitian Colleen Kristbaum, MS, RD, shares symptoms of pre-diabetes, meal ideas and tips for making healthy lifestyle changes that can help prevent the onset of diabetes for those at risk.
