Diesel spill temporarily closes part of I-43 southbound in Ozaukee County

OZAUKEE COUNTY -- A large diesel spill closed the southbound lanes between Highway 60 and Pioneer Road near Grafton Thursday night, Jan. 31. It happened around 8:50 p.m.

The investigation revealed that a semi truck, without a trailer, struck the flex beam prior to the Lakefield Bridge. The 49-year-old driver from Sheboygan was not injured.

All lanes on southbound I-43 from Highway 60 to Pioneer Road were closed for three hours for the cleanup of diesel fuel and the removal of the semi truck.

The bridge was examined by a Wisconsin Department of Transportation engineer and was deemed structurally sound.

The Ozaukee County Sheriff's Office is investigating the crash.
