Digital billboards feature works from artists in southeast Wisconsin
MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Since the beginning of the month, you may have noticed art being featured on digital billboards around town. It's part of a ten-day, first-of-its-kind digital billboard art initiative.
Pegi Christiansen is the chair and site manager of Milwaukee-based IN:SITE, an organization which she says fosters temporary public art. It's also the creative force behind Digital Billboard Art Month.
Through Friday, October 11th, 18 city of Milwaukee non-profit visual art groups will have at least one billboard piece of art in rotation. It's all compliments of ClearChannel and Lamar.
"It's the first time that there's been a digital billboard art project, like this, in the nation," said Christiansen. "They are on both freeways and on streets in Milwaukee."
A team of experts consulted and determined the best way to excite those who see the billboards without distracting drivers.
"There's been a real renaissance of interest -- growing interest -- in bringing art onto the street, and really making art accessible to everybody," said Christiansen.
