Discarded coals from grill cause garage fire in Racine
RACINE -- Racine Fire Department officials responded to a fire at a Racine home in the 2700 block of Taylor Avenue just before 5:00 a.m. Sunday, June 10th.
Officials believe the cause of the fire was discarded coals from a grill.
The fire caused around $3,000 in damage. The garage exterior, several garbage cans and a motorcycle were damaged.
Officials say a neighbor used his garden hose from across the street to douse the fire until fire crews arrived on the scene.
There were no injuries as a result of this fire.
Fire crews say this fire serves as a reminder -- especially during grilling season -- to safely dispose of hot coals by placing them in a metal or non-combustible container, and keeping combustible material at least three feet away from anything that could catch fire.
