Dodge Co. Sheriff's Dept. warns of telephone scam
DODGE CO. (WITI) -- The Dodge County Sheriff's Department is warning its residents of a telephone scam.
Officials say a female is placing telephone calls to citizens representing themselves as an employee of the WI Dodge County Felony Fraud Division.
The person was attempting to get bank account information under the pretense that the individual's wife had issued a worthless check and she needed his account information in order to avoid prosecution or suspension of his wife’s vehicle registration.
Sheriff Patricia Ninmann said in a news release, “At no time does the Sheriff’s Office contact individuals via telephone to retrieve financial information or banking account numbers. This is another example of SCAMS that people are attempting to portray on the citizens. Please be aware of the potential scams and at no time should you ever provide your personal or bank information over the phone”.
If you have received a telephone call similar to this please do not provide ANY information and request that they provide you documentation via the U.S. mail for review. If they become aggressive disconnect the call.
