MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- This week, you're being asked to ditch the car for your bike. It's part of a nationwide effort encouraging people to bike to work.
"It`s just fun to be on a bike," bike commuter Jeff Glessing said.
He's one of dozens who kicked off the work week with a bike ride. The cyclists are encouraging others to do the same.
"Give it a couple of tries, give it a try to see how it feels," organizer Jeff Polenske said.
The ride Monday started at Washington Boulevard and 51st street and ended at the Ziedler Municipal Building. Even Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett rode along in a shirt and tie.
"It's a good way to start the morning and a good way to start the week," Mayor Barrett said.
The city has hundreds of bike lanes. More than 40 additional miles will be installed by June.
