Drama over lost/stolen cell phone leads to three arrests at Racine George Webb; man charged
RACINE (WITI) -- Three people were arrested at the George Webb restaurant on Douglas Avenue in Racine following an incident involving a lost/stolen cell phone belonging to a man who is now criminally charged.
Kevin Calbow
The man charged in this case is 36-year-old Kevin Calbow of Mount Pleasant. He faces the following charges:
Calbow has previous convictions involving possession of THC.
A criminal complaint filed against Calbow says he came to the George Webb restaurant in the 4500 block of Douglas Avenue in Racine looking for his cell phone he claimed to have left there during the early morning hours of April 1st. Calbow said he had forgotten the phone, and when he used the tracking service to find the location of his phone, that it had been on Douglas Avenue and also at a blood bank. Calbow said he had spoken with an individual who informed him one of her George Webb employees had sent her a message from the phone.
Calbow, believing that his phone had been stolen, said he came to the restaurant to intimidate the employees into returning the phone after learning that it may be in the possession of a George Webb employee.
As police were talking with Calbow outside the restaurant, an employee came out and told police a disturbance was occurring inside. Police entered the restaurant and observed two people yelling at a third person -- the person believed to have stolen Calbow's phone. Those two people who were yelling were arrested for disorderly conduct.
Police then returned to the restaurant and spoke with the person who was previously being yelled at, believed to have Calbow's phone. That person admitted to stealing Calbow's phone. That person told police the individual who was waiting on Calbow and his friends brought a cell phone behind the counter after Calbow and his friends left, and the person who took the phone said she placed it in her pocket -- later selling it to a friend at his place of employment.
Later, when her shift began at the George Webb restaurant, she says Calbow entered the restaurant -- yelling and demanding the return of his phone. The woman told police Calbow picked up the front register and threatened to throw it if his phone wasn't returned. The woman says Calbow eventually went behind the counter and chased her around the kitchen area -- eventually cornering her. She says he then "got in her face" and started yelling at her -- along with the two other people who were eventually arrested for disorderly conduct.
The woman told police Calbow choked her -- lifting her up off the ground by her neck -- swinging her around and slamming her arm into one of the counters, causing bruising. Another person was able to help the woman break free from Calbow, and shortly thereafter, police arrived on scene.
When police were outside talking with Calbow, the woman says the others still inside continued yelling at her -- knocking items off the counter.
The person who helped the woman break free from Calbow told police Calbow said "I'll have this place shot up," and that he threatened to set the restaurant on fire. That woman said she activated the silent alarm after hearing those comments from Calbow, according to the complaint.
An assistant manager at the George Webb restaurant told police when he entered the store, Calbow locked the front doors and said nobody was leaving until he got his phone back.
Calbow will be in court on April 9th for his preliminary hearing.
