Driver found with gunshot wound to head following crash on I-41 near Good Hope Road
MILWAUKEE COUNTY -- A man was pronounced dead at the hospital following a rollover crash that happened early Monday morning, July 16 on I-41 southbound near Good Hope Road. Officials say the driver suffered a gunshot wound to the head.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the scene around 4 a.m.
Witnesses indicated that the vehicle drifted into the distress lane, struck the median wall several times, drove on top of the wall and then rolled over onto its roof.
Upon arrival, deputies found the driver bleeding profusely from his head and cut him out of the seatbelt in order to render aid.
Milwaukee Fire Department emergency personnel arrived and took over life-saving efforts. The unidentified man was transported to the hospital, where medical staff indicated the man suffered a gunshot wound to the temple, and pronounced him dead at 5:50 a.m.
While conducting a vehicle check, a deputy saw a pistol inside.
The Milwaukee Police Department and Wisconsin State Patrol assisted with a full freeway closure to gather evidence and take crash reconstruction measurements at the scene.
An investigation is ongoing.
